Burn Captions Into Your Recordings Before You Share or Download
Drefly's Record tool can now burn captions permanently into a recording, right from the Share and Download modals. Turn on "Render captions into the downloaded video" (or "Render captions on the shared video" when sharing), pick a language and a style, and the caption track gets baked into the video frames themselves, so it shows up everywhere, even on platforms that ignore separate subtitle files.
What's new: captions you can burn in
Every recording already gets a free AI transcript. This feature turns that transcript into a caption track that lives inside the video file, not a sidecar file you have to attach separately. It is available in two places:
- The Share modal, so a link you send someone plays with captions already on it.
- The Download modal, so the MP4, WEBM, MOV, or other exported file has captions baked in before it ever leaves your browser.
How it works, step by step
- Open Share or Download on a recording that already has a transcript. If it does not have one yet, generate a transcript in AI Insights first, the checkbox stays off until there is a caption track to render.
- Check "Render captions into the downloaded video" (or the equivalent on the Share modal).
- Pick the caption language from the transcript's own languages, if the recording has more than one.
- Adjust the style if you want something other than the default, and watch the live preview update.
- Click Download or create the share link. Rendering happens right there in your browser, with a progress indicator while it works.
Style it your way
Six settings control how the burned in captions look, with a live preview showing exactly what you will get before you render anything:
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Font | Inter, Arial, Georgia, Courier New, Impact, or Comic Sans |
| Size | 20 to 96 pixels, 42 by default |
| Weight | Bold or Regular |
| Color | Any color, for the base caption text |
| Highlight | A separate color for emphasis, red by default |
| Position | Bottom, Middle, or Top of the frame |
Whatever you set becomes your default the next time you burn in captions, so you only have to style it once.
Works in every language your transcript covers
If a recording's transcript covers more than one language, the caption language dropdown lists each one, and you can burn in whichever one fits where the recording is headed. Transcription itself supports close to a hundred languages, so this is not limited to English recordings.
Runs in your browser, free, no watermark
The rendering happens client side, in the browser, using the same recording you already have open. Nothing is uploaded anywhere just to burn in a caption track. It is part of the free Record tool: no watermark on the result, no payment wall, no extra account needed beyond what you already use to record and share.
Burned in captions sit alongside the rest of the Share and Download flow: PIN protected links, format conversion to MP4, WEBM, MOV, MKV, AVI, FLV, or GIF, and quality selection all still work the same way, captions are just one more toggle in the same modal. See Free Screen Recorder With No Signup or Watermark for the rest of what Record can do, or Drefly vs Loom for how it compares to the alternative.
We'd love your feedback
This is a new part of Record, and it will keep improving. If a style option, language, or export format is missing for how you work, email support@drefly.pro.
